so much for posting daily

i had high hopes of posting here daily, but clearly that didn't happen. i didn't even do every other day. such is life with 2 little ones i suppose. i am happy to report that i was able to get the house picked up and back in order after my last post. the house looked nice for a few hours and then was messy again after brooke woke up from her nap. does that happen to you too? i can't keep up with the messes she makes and getting her to help clean up is like pulling teeth!

even though i haven't been posting i have been working my way through money saving mom's 4 weeks to a more organized home series.

Day 1 Assignment

::Get dressed in something that makes you feel great {there’s something about dressing in clothes that make you feel great that just gives you more energy and zest for life! Get your free copy of SarahMae’s ebook, Frumps to Pumps, if you need more motivation in this.}
::Sit down with a cup of coffee or tea and make a list of 5-10 goals for this week.
::Complete your morning routine {if you don’t have a morning routine, take some time to create one today! Read my How to Develop a Routine That Works–And Stick With It series for step-by-step help.}
::Set the timer for 15 minutes and quickly pick up the main living areas of your home.
::Clean out your purse and/or diaper bag.
::Find 7 items to get rid of today. Throw them out, stick them in a donate or garage sale box, give them to a friend who can use them, or list them on Craigslist or eBay.
i'm still working on getting dressed daily, but i do make sure to get a shower every day...even if i just put jammies on again :-P
my weekly to do list has been more than 5-10 things. this week i'm going to try to keep my list at no more than 10.
my morning routine = take a shower before lunch and not loose my cool with the kids
i LOVE the 15 minute timed picking up/cleaning! i'm actually able to get the house cleaned by doing that in every room...as long as the kids are busy playing (or sleeping).
i have cleaned out the diaper bag almost daily. i can't keep that thing clean! probably because i pack everything but the kitchen sink when the kids and i go out.
i have been finding more than 7 items every day to donate, sell, or trash. that money has been going into the kids' birthday envelopes (since we now use cash for everything but bills and gas). i did sell some of my clothes from before the kids came along and used that on myself.

now that brooke is up from her very long very late nap (it's just after 8pm here) i should probably wrap this up so i'll end with this...2 weeks from today in my 5 year wedding anniversary! william hasn't worn his wedding ring in over a year (it's too small). i wanted to get it re-sized in time for our anniversary, but there isn't enough time now. do you have any ideas on what to get him?

one last thing...i've been following 2 blogs lately that have been really inspiring to me: A Small Snippet and The Purposeful Wife. Since both blogs have been around for awhile I've been reading through their old posts. The Purposeful Wife has a Bible reading plan. She did this plan in the past, but is doing something different this year. I'm going to try out her old plan. And hopefully get William to do it with me! (Hey! I'm using capital letters! That's because I'm not holding a baby!)

the dreaded first post

i never know what to write as the first post so i'll just write a little bit of everything :-)

i'm kirby. wife to william of almost 5 years. mom to brooke (june 2009) and asher (october 2011). i'm a sahm. william installs dental equipment to pay the bills and writes/plays music in his free time. brooke is the typical almost 3 year old girl...sassy, bossy, busy, loud, not potty trained (that last one is probably just for her...she's terrified of the potty). asher is pretty laid back and is a momma's boy (he's usually sitting on my lap when i type these posts). we have a dog (smoke monster), a cat (chuck norris), and brooke has 3 fish (i'm not allowed to clean the fish tank anymore). we live in a tiny house in a cruddy area. we are almost out of debt (just one last student loan and the house left).

this blog will be about my life as a sahm to two young kids, money saving tips, household management tips, projects we're doing (big and small), crafty things, and whatever else comes to mind.

i'm going to start off by doing money saving mom's 4 weeks to a more organized home. she's on day 7 now, but you can find all of the posts here...http://moneysavingmom.com/tag/4-weeks-to-a-more-organized-home i'll post day 1 tomorrow and officially start then.

for now i'm going to be brave and show you pictures of what my house looks like now. i can't believe i'm post them because the house is a wreck! that seems to be a trend in my house ever since asher was born. i can't seem to keep up on everything...hence the name of the blog, chasing yesterday.

the living room. toys are everywhere and the couch need vacuumed bad thanks to the cat.

brooke's room. william made the bed, table, and bookcases. plans for the bed and bookcases can be found on this website...http://ana-white.com/

asher's room. not too bad except for his closet.

this is supposed to be the kids' bathroom, but since they are young and we have a dog it's the cat's room. if you have a cat where do you keep the litter box and food? i'd love to get all their bath toys out of my tiny bathroom!

the master bedroom. a headboard will hopefully be a project soon, but at least we finally have a bed frame! maybe real bedding too. ps making the bed is something i do every single day.

our laundry sorter/linen closet made by william based off plans from http://ana-white.com/2010/11/laundry-basket-dresser

our closet...so much stuff!

see?!

our tiny master bathroom (where asher's doorway jumper lives and where asher was born...on accident). note the pink potty seat that brooke wants nothing to do with. ::sigh::

the kitchen (and brooke) this is always the worst room of the house for me. maybe because i really don't like doing dishes, but i love to cook.

i cleaned out the fridge/freezer yesterday!

the laundry "closet"

the garage. william has all next week off and we're tackling this! hopefully most will be trash or going to goodwill.

ack! my house is a mess! my goal today will be getting it all picked up and ready to start money saving mom's 4 weeks to a more organized home tomorrow.

one last picture for you guys because it might be nice to put a face to all the names :-)

asher is 6 months old now!

brooke

william and brooke at the pumpkin patch.

me doing one of the few things i'm always doing (feeding asher. i also cook, clean, and change diapers)

brooke getting to really see asher for the first time. she was in love instantly and hogged him the rest of the night.
